Course Overview
This course is a hands-on learning experience designed to provide an actionable set of steps to help your organizations implement a Cloud Financial Operations (FinOps) strategy to maximize your cloud investment with Google Cloud. This course focuses on the technical aspects of FinOps, and is suitable for Finance and/or IT engineering and operations roles.
Prerequisites
Completion of the Google Cloud Fundamentals: Core Infrastructure (GCF-CI) and Getting Started with FinOps on Google Cloud Course - NonTech (GSFO-NT) or equivalent experience with Google Cloud.
Course Objectives
- Retrieve recommendations for Google Resources using Recommender
- Create VMs in Premium and Standard network service tiers
- Compare VM latency and network paths
- Optimize your cloud network for performance and/or cost
- Learn how to get the best value from GKE Clusters
- Learn the four dimensions of auto-scaling in GKE
Outline: Getting Started with FinOps on Google Cloud Course - TechEng (GSFO-TE)
Module 1 - Using Recommendations for Infrastructure as Code
- Recommender enables you to retrieve recommendations for Google Cloud resources, helping you to improve cloud security, save costs, and more.
Activities:
- Lab: Optimizing Network Spend
Module 2 - Understanding Google Kubernetes Engine Costs & Optimization
- To balance cost, reliability and scaling performance on Google Kubernetes Enging (GKE), it is necessary to first understand what options do you have and how autoscale works. Once you understand the basics of GKE autoscaling and other useful cost-optimized configurations, it is time to prepare your application to run on top of such an environment.
Activities:
- Lab: Exploring Cost Optimization for Google Kubernetes Engine
- Lab: Understanding and Combining Google Kubernetes Autoscaling Strategies
